Are you interested in taking part but want to know more about what that involves?
Here are the 7 steps to taking part...
Go to the "mothers" or "young persons" page (whichever applies to you)
If you want, you can look at the extra information there before applying:
welcome video
audio versions of study information
Topic guides for the interviews
Click the "apply to take part here" banners or links.
Complete the screening questions, consent form and (if you want) some details about yourself
(this takes around 10 minutes)
I will contact you using the name and e-mail you have provided to arrange an interview at a time that best suits you.
6. Taking part in an online interview, using Microsoft Teams. This can be done from the comfort of your home using any device that has internet, including a phone.
7. After your interview will receive compensation for your time, links to support, and a reminder to check back on the website for updates as the study continues.
Interviews will take place online (using Microsoft Teams) at a time that suits you (including evenings and weekends).
Interview topic guides can be found on either the "mothers" or "young persons" page. These guides provide more information about things you may be asked during your interview.
Interviews usually take around an hour, they can be shorter or longer depending on how much you want to share.
Interviews will be recorded, and what you say in the interview can be used as quotes in the research and to help inform and educate others.
For those who do not have a device with internet and the ability to install Microsoft Teams, other options are available. We will chat about this when we are arranging a day / time for your interview.
For those who feel they would benefit from a supportive person with them for the interview, they will also need to give consent before your interview can begin.
Please see the poster below for some interview tips.

What are interview props?
Some people prefer to talk about their experience
Others benefit from creative ways of expressing themselves, especially with topics that are hard to talk about.
Before saying what props are, I just wanted to mention that your comfort and safety is important and you are invited to:
craft
engage in a hobby
do chores
doodle
use fidget toys
move around
take breaks
have snacks
keep hydrated
(etc.)
To help you to stay focused and feel comfortable during your interview.
Interview Props:
Some people find it helpful to bring something to an interview with them, to help them to talk about their experiences. If you feel this is helpful, you could bring any of the following:
Photos
Images
Videos
Music
Writing
or
Objects
These are just some ideas, if you have something in mind, but are unsure if you can bring it to your interview, feel free to get in touch with me and we can talk it through.
These can be things you have found (such as, a sonfg that helped you through your experience), or things you have created yourself.
If you decide to use props, I will not ask for any copies, but may ask you to describe your prop as part of the interview.
